EUDON CHOI

Eudon Choi Varykino Autumn Winter 2013

for autumn winter 2013, eudon choi delivers a collection of trademark, acute precision tailoring, and for the first time explores romance and nostalgia. the starting point for the collection is russian folk, looking to traditional costume, folk stories and visual representations of its women. choi's ever present cinematic references this season focus on the epic dr zhivago, directed by david lean and starring the luminous julie christie. varykino, the title of the show, refers to the ice palace where yuri and lara finally surrender to their long repressed feelings and begin their affair - a blissful time for them both - before they are cruelly separated. autumn winter 13 also marks choi's first season with the swarovski collective. red and rose russian filigree created using swarovski crystal rocks adorns a knotted royal blue and white stripe, becoming one of the collection's most dazzling elements. azure blue, amaranth pink and scarlet are key, while meticulously clean lines are emphasised by full sarafan inspired skirts and wide-leg trousers. these sit alongside choi's signature contrasting block colors. elsewhere, romantic silk blouses, scarves and dressed are contrasted with sleek bonded leather in jackets and a chic drop-waist dress. eudon choi's contrasting textures are transformed for aw13 with jacquards of mixed fabrics : heavy grey wool on chiffon ; cream on organza ; and blue on metallic. unveiling his first venture into knitwear, choi introduces honeycomb knits and has created pieces laden with intricately embroidered loose swarovski crystals in mint alabaster and rose water that suggest the appearance of glistening water lilies. model's heads are adorned with beautiful head-pieces by piers atkinson : lush floral bands and printed silk scarves designed by illustrator tom baxter. the shoes are designed in collaboration with joanne stoker and festooned with feminine pom poms. the collection's overt femininity is effortlessly balanced by choi's stealthy cuts and application of masculine tailoring throughout, always remaining true to the signature for which he has become known.

SASS & BIDE

W I N T E R   G A T E

autumn / winter '13

exploring the evolution of structures & internal mechanics, winter gate hails from the frameworks of an industrial world while finding counterbalance in the beauty & spirit of the natural. the collection revels in the journey of transformation. from the inside out, balance is found in the collision of opposition ; structure & fluidity, freedom & future. bold lines, caged bodices & armadillo layers create a sculptural silhouette that echoes the man-made. precise suiting & placement cut-outs highlight sensual zones while fluid silks & sheer panels summon the feminine force. tonal shades of grey, black & ivory are laced with futuristic chrome, reflective metals and subtle nectar hues. lines meet in plaited leather & rows of metal giving way to the unexpected new check. architectural graphics, hole-punched metal, wooden & plastic beading, woven raffia and flickers of pearl & diamante meet to form the textural landscape that is...wintergate.
